This Alzforum story covers recent work featured in Nature Neuroscience. Using in vivo two-photon imaging, authors showed they could detect neuronal loss in triple-transgenic AD mice, and that knocking out the microglial chemokine receptor CX3CR1 prevents this neurodegeneration. Given the recent interest in the role of microglia in ALS, this story suggests some potential tools and targets that may help shed more light on this complex evolving story.
