Neuralstem Receives Russian Patent for Stem Cell Transplantation to Treat Neurodegenerative Conditions

The Russian Federation has granted a patent to Neuralstem, Inc. that covers the transplantation of human neural cells for the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions. The patent covers Neuralstem’s claims for both the method used to culture the cells as well as their use for treating ALS, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis and other conditions. Neuralstem is the first to test the method of treating these disorders with fetal-derived spinal cord stem cells in their ongoing FDA-approved ALS trial in the United States.
