PatientsLikeMe Lands $8M

PatientsLikeMe, a Cambridge-based firm that creates online communities for individuals with particular illnesses, has raised $8M of a planned $30M. The firm generates revenue by selling anonymous health data provided by its users. PatientsLikeMe was founded by the Heywood family as a way to provide patients with access to tools and information about their disease after Stephen Heywood was diagnosed with ALS in 1998.
