Quest Diagnostics to Release New ALS Genetic Test

Worcester, MA-based Athena Diagnostics, a business subunit of parent Quest Diagnostics, announces the availability of a new genetic test for ALS based on the detection of mutations in the newly identified ALS gene C9orf72. This mutation is particularly common in cases of familial ALS (appearing in up to 39% of patients) and is also found in some cases of sporadic ALS and frontotemporal dementia.
